Working great so far, with IDE hard drives. : USB 2.0 to IDE Adapter Cable

I have connected several 3.5" drives, and 3 different 2.5" laptop drives (using an adapter, which is not included), and copied a lot of data in Windows XP with no problems. It even works with Ghost 8, to re-image PCs. I have 2 similar devices, from other manufacturers, and both have failed within a few weeks, intermittently not recognizing the drives (they also cost more money than this one so paying more doesn't guarantee success here). It seems that these devices are hit and miss as far as whether they work or not. Make sure to connect it in the correct sequence: IDE, DC power, AC power, wait for the drive to come ready, then USB.

Needs to be worked on! : Sabrent USB-2535 USB 2.0 to IDE Cable for 2.5-/3.5-/ 5.25-Inch Drive with Power Adapter

This is an OK product when you get the hang of it, it works like it says but it really needs an on/off switch for the power supply other wise you could jerk your drive the wrong way and cause a hard crash (heads smash into disk platters) in my opinion you should not have to handle the disk after it has power!

Remember if you get this hook the connector to the drive then connect the power or your PC just won't see the drive!

I have also had system instability leavening a drive connected to long a few times and have to force disk services to shut down in WinXP PRO sp2 or restart so use it for data recovery or burning a disk then disconnect!!!

TO REMOVE: First unplug the drive from the USB port! if your kill the power to the drive your computer will not know it was removed and will become unstable trying to read it!

also your drive MUST have the jumper set to MASTER!

Dekcel USB - HD adaptor---not too bad : Dekcell USB 2.0 to IDE Adapter Cable for 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" Drive with Power Adapter

Was very easy to install and use on my laptop's 2.5 inch drive. I had to remove the special plastic guard/pin adaptor on the drive, but that was easy. I have not yet been successful in getting my 3.5 inch HD to read however. The drive itself may be faulty, but I think that there is just not enough power supplied to the motor. The HD is old, so I don't entirely blame the Dekcel adaptor. Overall, worth the money so far.

I bought this to help recover files from "dead" computers, both my own and for customers. It is very convenient to plug in an external drive without cracking open your case. I have used it with both XP and Vista, and on a variety of hard drives (old and new) with perfect success. Be sure to connect the cables as outlined in the instructions on the box.

Caveats: if you want to use a drive as a permanent external drive, you are probably better off getting an external enclosure. This product is really intended for temporary connections.

Also, this item is not as portable as you might like, mainly because the power adapter is large (almost as big as my notebook's).

Nevertheless, this is a great tool for the money.
